Writing by Tolip on Tuesday, 19 of February , 2008 at 10:31 pm

Algeria will return 15 Russian built MiG-29 SMTs back to Russia due to inferior quality of certain components and units. Deliveries of the aircraft started in March 2007 as part of a $1.28 billion contract for 35 units: 29 MiG-29 SMT and six MiG-29 UB trainers. After only 15 aircraft delivered Algeria decided to return the aircraft claiming that the quality of the delivered products is inferior to what was expected. It is possible that the Russians will offer Algeria the more advanced MiG-29 M2s or MiG-35s. (Read more…)

Afghani soldiers fishing with RPGs

Writing by Cristian on Saturday, 13 of October , 2007 at 6:07 pm

There’s an old saying in my country: “Hunger is the best teacher”. Well, that’s probably true but taking out fish with a RPG is definitely overkill. I know they’re doing it for the fun, but at least they could’ve found a better target for practicing (like an incoming helicopter for example). Anyway, you’ve got to admire the fact that although they have a different culture, they do know how to have a heck of a good time.

Black Ops: American pilots flying Russian aircraft during the Cold War

The program continued until the early 1990’s, when the fall of the Soviet Union led to the end of the Cold War. (Read more…)

Russian plasma stealth fighters

Writing by Tolip on Wednesday, 3 of October , 2007 at 2:30 pm

First developed by the Russians, plasma stealth technology is also known as “Active Stealth Technology”. Plasma stealth is a proposed process that uses ionized gas (plasma) to reduce the radar cross section (RCS) of an aircraft. A plasma stream is injected in front of the aircraft covering the entire body of the aircraft and absorbing most of the electromagnetic energy of the radar waves, thus making the aircraft difficult to detect.
