Another great story from the History Channel’s TV series “Dogfights”. Using state of the art computer generated imagery, the series manages to give the viewer a better perspective of what it is like to partake in aerial combat. This is the story of Art Fiedler and his victories in a low level altitude dogfight. North Carolina delivered to US Navy

North Carolina (SSN-777) was delivered by Northrop Grumman Newport News to the United States Navy. The North Carolina is the last ship of the First Block, following the USS Virginia (SSN-774), the USS Texas (SSN-775) and the USS (SSN-776) that are already in service. Also, the brand new Virginia class attack submarine will be the fifth ship of the United States Navy to be named for the 12th state. (Read more…)

Spirit down

A US Air Force B-2 Spirit stealth bomber crashed on the island of Guam Saturday morning ( local time ). The B-2 was part of the US Pacific Air Force and crashed shortly after takeoff from Andersen Air Force Base. Both of the pilots survived the crash and will supply the necessary information to the board of investigators that is assembled to evaluate the incident. This is the first time a B-2 stealth bomber crashes. The $1.2 billion B-2 Spirit is one of the most advanced stealth aircraft currently in service. (Read more…)

T-90 main battle tank

The T-90 is the latest development in the T-series of Russian tanks and represents an increase in firepower, mobility and protection. It is manufactured by Uralvagonzavod in Nizhnyi Tagil, Russia. The T-90 is currently the most modern tank in the Russian Ground Forces and Indian Army arsenal. The successor to T-72BM, the T-90 uses the gun and 1G46 gunner sights from T-80U, a new engine, and thermal sights. Protective measures include Kontakt-5 ERA, laser warning receivers, the EMT-7 electromagnetic pulse creator for the destruction of magnetic mines and the Shtora infrared ATGM jamming system. Algeria returns 15 MiGs due to quality issues

Algeria will return 15 Russian built MiG-29 SMTs back to Russia due to inferior quality of certain components and units. Deliveries of the aircraft started in March 2007 as part of a $1.28 billion contract for 35 units: 29 MiG-29 SMT and six MiG-29 UB trainers. After only 15 aircraft delivered Algeria decided to return the aircraft claiming that the quality of the delivered products is inferior to what was expected. It is possible that the Russians will offer Algeria the more advanced MiG-29 M2s or MiG-35s. (Read more…)

P-791 hybrid airship project

January 31, 2006 marked the maiden flight of the P-791 experimental hybrid airship. Developed by Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Development Programs aka Skunk Works, the P-791 hybrid airship was flight tested at Lockheed Martin’s flight test facility on the Palmdale Air Force Plant 42.
