On April 17, 2002, the Swiss Air Force invited the German Luftwaffe MiG-29 Fulcrums to a two week exercise, where pilots from both sides were to engage in DACT (Dissimilar Air Combat Training). Afghani soldiers fishing with RPGs

Writing by Cristian on Saturday, 13 of October , 2007 at 6:07 pm

There’s an old saying in my country: “Hunger is the best teacher”. Well, that’s probably true but taking out fish with a RPG is definitely overkill. I know they’re doing it for the fun, but at least they could’ve found a better target for practicing (like an incoming helicopter for example). Anyway, you’ve got to admire the fact that although they have a different culture, they do know how to have a heck of a good time.

Writing by Tolip on Friday, 12 of October , 2007 at 6:13 pm

The American F-16 Falcon and the Russian MiG-29 Fulcrum are two amazing planes that have sparked an endless debate as to which one is better. In 1997 USAF’s 457th F-16 squadron trained at Forth Worth alongside German MiG-29s and pilots from both sides engaged in simulated dogfights. This is HUD footage taken from an F-16 combined with a few famous quotes.

Lockheed Martin F-16 Block 50/52/60

Writing by Tolip on Wednesday, 10 of October , 2007 at 1:13 pm

The Lockheed Martin F-16 Block 50/52/60 represents a further step in the evolution of the F-16 Fighting Falcon multirole jet fighter. There are many new modifications, most of them internally, but the biggest change visible to the eye is the pair of removable conformal fuel tanks and a dorsal avionics compartment that make the new Falcon one of the ugliest jets ever.

Phalanx close-in defense system

Writing by Cristian on Sunday, 7 of October , 2007 at 1:28 pm

The Phalanx close-in defense system was first fitted to the USS Coral Sea in 1980 and is actually a 20 mm M61 Vulcan (Gatling-type) rotary cannon which is controlled by a system that acquires and tracks possible threats by radar.

Initially the system was able to fire only 3000 rounds per minute, but that improved as the Block 1, 1A and 1B came into play with upgraded radar, control systems, new sensors (FLIR) and rates of fire up to 7000 rpm.

Writing by Tolip on Friday, 5 of October , 2007 at 1:39 pm

While out on border patrol, an OH-58D Kiowa Warrior surveillance helicopter came across a couple having sex in a convertible. This funny situation was recorded using the IR camera on board the helicopter. You can hear pilots talk about it over the radio. “We have activity here but I don’t think we really need to report it…. appears to be fornication in a convertible”… Seems the pilots have a lot of fun. Hilarious!!! (Read more…)
