No room for error

Another great story from the History Channel’s TV series “Dogfights”. Using state of the art computer generated imagery, the series manages to give the viewer a better perspective of what it is like to partake in aerial combat. This is the story of Art Fiedler and his victories in a low level altitude dogfight. Watch P-51 Mustang pilot Art Fiedler tell his story as he battles German FW-190 down on the deck, where there is no room for error.

i would like to say that since the histiry channel is an american channel they r very much biased in showing dog fights. they only glorify the american acheivements. what i want to say is tha t they must show the dogfights of others also.

I would agree on watching British, or German dog fights, which they do, & Japanese. You ever watch the Military channel who gives credits to all countries military equipment (part of History channel) Americans love military equipment, & has great admiration for German, British, & yes even the vastily inferior Russian fighting vehicles.

I saw the chapter of the program “Dogfights” where Art Fiedler shoots down a german pilot who is flying near to the ground with his airplane damaged, I know that no one should shoot to a pilot that is fleeing after being wounded, and that is cowardice and should not be considered as a victory.
Where is the chivalry that is supposed all the pilots had?

I just love how these History Channel progs conveniently “omits” relevant information, such as the fact that those Fw190’s were “bomber busters”… they were so heavily laden with heavy cannon and armour plating that they were really no match for a P-51B or D. Holding off a Mustang with a good pilot such as Art Fiedler at bay for such a long time was an achievement in itself.

And since when do interceptor pilots, attacking heavy bombers with full bomb-loads en route to bomb their own cities, qualify as “bloodthirsty”? Perhaps History Channel wishes to imply that one is automatically “bloodthirsty” if one is shooting at Americans, but never the other way around…

No disrespect to Art Fiedler, though… he was one heck of of a pilot.
